Sell it first if it has value
A Windows laptop with an Intel Core processor from the 6th generation onwards, or any AMD Ryzen, has resale or parts value to us even with a cracked screen or liquid damage. Selling it pays you and still gets it recycled properly, because the parts we can’t reuse go for recycling once the data is wiped. The form tells you the price in a minute, and our guide to what your laptop is worth lists it for every processor.
Recycling a laptop that’s worth nothing
Laptops with a Celeron, a Pentium or one of the first five generations of Intel Core are worth little or nothing to us. You don’t need us for those.
Your council’s household recycling centre takes laptops with its small electricals. Shops that sell electrical goods have to take an old one back when you buy its replacement from them, under the UK’s WEEE rules.
Wipe it before it goes, either way. Our data wiping guide shows how, and if the laptop won’t start, take the drive out first (it’s one or two screws on most models) and keep it.
Business laptops and free IT disposal
Replacing a fleet? We buy business laptops in bulk and price them together, so ring 01440 784570 or email info@sellyourlaptop.co.uk with the models and how many you have.
For the rest of an office clear-out (desktops, monitors, printers, phones, networking kit) our IT disposal company, Recycle Your Tec, runs free collections for businesses, wipes every drive and gives you the paperwork to prove it.
