We Buy Broken Laptops

A laptop doesn’t have to work for us to buy it, even one that’s only good for parts. We price a broken laptop on its processor and the parts we can recover, so one with a recent chip still earns real money with a smashed screen. Our guide to what your laptop is worth has the Faulty price for every processor.

Faults we accept

• Cracked or chipped screens, dead pixels, delamination and backlights that have failed
• Liquid damage
• No power: laptops that won’t turn on at all
• Laptops that won’t charge, or only run with the charger plugged in
• Keyboards, speakers, webcams and Wi-Fi that don’t work
• Screens scratched deep enough to feel, or to show a rainbow

All of these go in as Faulty. A laptop that works but has lost its charger isn’t faulty, so don’t undersell it: choose the condition it’s in. Without a working charger we take £10 off an Excellent laptop, or £75 off an Excellent gaming or workstation laptop.

How to sell a broken laptop

Choose the brand and the processor as you would for a working laptop, then pick Faulty at the condition step. If it won’t start and you can’t see the processor, the model number on the label underneath is enough for us to look it up. A quote over £20 is collected free: a DPD driver comes on the day you choose and brings a secure box, so there’s nothing to pack. Smaller quotes go to a DPD shop or by post.

When it reaches us

We check the fault is what you described and wipe the data before anything is reused or recycled. If it turns out worse than you said, you’ll get the revised offer, with photos of any damage we found, before we do anything else, and turning it down means we send the laptop back at our cost. We pay by bank transfer or PayPal the same day we check it.

One thing to know: a laptop with a Celeron, a Pentium or one of the first five generations of Intel Core is worth next to nothing to us, broken or not. For those, laptop recycling is the honest answer.
