Look for the sticker
Most laptops have a small Intel or AMD sticker on the palm rest, beside the touchpad.
In Windows
Open Settings, then System, then About. The line headed Processor starts with Intel or AMD. Our spec guide has pictures of each screen.
If it won't turn on
Turn it over. The label underneath carries the model number (on HP, the "Product" or "P/N" line), and that's enough to look up everything else. Or ring us on 01440 784570 with the model number and we'll look it up.

Finding your Acer’s model and processor
Acer’s label on the base carries the model (Aspire A515-56, for example), the serial number (S/N) and the SNID, an 11 or 12-digit number with no letters. On a working laptop, Acer Care Center lists the serial number and SNID on its My System tile, and Acer’s support site accepts either. For the processor in Windows, use our spec guide.
Reading Acer model names
In a code like A515-56, A5 is the range (Aspire 5), 15 is the screen size, and the number after the dash is the platform, which changes with the processor:
- Aspire 5 A515-56: 15.6-inch, 11th-generation Intel
- A515-57: 15.6-inch, 12th generation
- A515-58: 15.6-inch, 13th generation
- A515-45: 15.6-inch, AMD Ryzen 5000
- A514-54: 14-inch, 11th-generation Intel
- Swift 3 SF314-511: 14-inch, 11th-generation Intel (the SF314-43 is the Ryzen 5000 version)
What changes the price
- After the dash, the number sets the generation. An A515-58 pays more than an A515-56 in the same condition.
- Depending on the laptop’s condition, the screen size can affect the price.
- Include the charger if you have it. Without a working one, choose the condition the laptop is in: an Excellent Acer stays Excellent, less £10, and Good or Faulty prices don’t change.
- A cracked screen, dead keyboard or liquid damage makes it Faulty. We buy those too; the details are under selling a broken laptop.

Do you buy the Acer Spin?
Yes. The Spin is a Windows convertible, and its touchscreen doesn’t change our price. What we price is the processor and its generation, plus screen size and condition.
What's the difference between the SNID and the serial number?
Both identify the laptop to Acer. The SNID is the shorter, numbers-only one. For our quote, the model on the same label (A515-56 and so on) is what we need.
My Aspire won't turn on. Is it still worth quoting?
Yes. It goes in as Faulty, and the code on the label tells us the generation without the laptop starting.
