How do I find my processor brand?
How do I find my processor brand?
Look for the sticker
Most laptops have a small Intel or AMD sticker on the palm rest, beside the touchpad.
In Windows
Open Settings, then System, then About. The line headed Processor starts with Intel or AMD. Our spec guide has pictures of each screen.
If it won't turn on
Turn it over. The label underneath carries the model number (on HP, the "Product" or "P/N" line), and that's enough to look up everything else. Or ring us on 01440 784570 with the model number and we'll look it up.

Microsoft Surface laptops we buy
We buy the Surface Laptop, Surface Laptop Go, Surface Laptop Studio and Surface Book.
Finding your Surface’s model and processor
Open the Surface app and expand Device information: the model is next to Surface model. Or go to Settings, System, About, where the model sits near the top, above Device specifications. On the laptop itself, the serial number is printed in small text under the keyboard near the hinge on a Surface Laptop or Laptop Go, and on the bottom of the keyboard on a Surface Book, alongside the model details. Windows names the processor too (our spec guide explains how to find it).
Reading Surface model names
The number in a Surface name counts Microsoft’s versions and doesn’t match Intel’s generation. The screen size isn’t in the name either:
- Surface Laptop 3, 13.5 or 15-inch: 10th-generation Intel, or AMD Ryzen on the 15-inch
- Surface Laptop 4, 13.5 or 15-inch: 11th-generation Intel or AMD Ryzen, in both sizes
- Surface Laptop 5, 13.5 or 15-inch: 12th-generation Intel
- Surface Laptop Go, Go 2 and Go 3, all 12.4-inch: 10th, 11th and 12th-generation Intel
- Surface Laptop Studio, 14.4-inch: 11th-generation Intel; Laptop Studio 2: 13th generation
- Surface Book 3, 13.5 or 15-inch: 10th-generation Intel
What changes the price
- Screen size. The 15-inch Surface Laptop and the 14.4-inch Laptop Studio price as full-size laptops; the 13.5-inch Laptop and the 12.4-inch Laptop Go are bought for less.
- Excellent needs Microsoft’s own power supply, the one with the magnetic Surface Connect plug. Without it, choose Good.
- A cracked screen or a Surface that won’t start is Faulty, and we buy it on the terms in selling a broken laptop.
Microsoft Surface questions
Payment, collection and data wiping are covered on our FAQs page.
My Surface Laptop is 13.5-inch. Do you buy it?
Yes. Screens under 14 inches are priced lower, and the 13.5-inch Surface Laptop is one of them.
Is the Surface Laptop Go worth selling?
Yes. Its 12.4-inch screen puts it below a 14-inch laptop with the same chip, and the Go 3’s 12th-generation processor puts it above the Go and Go 2.
How do I find the model if my Surface won't turn on?
Read the small print under the keyboard by the hinge (on a Surface Book, under the keyboard base). If you can’t make it out, ring 01440 784570.
