Look for the sticker
Most laptops have a small Intel or AMD sticker on the palm rest, beside the touchpad.
In Windows
Open Settings, then System, then About. The line headed Processor starts with Intel or AMD. Our spec guide has pictures of each screen.
If it won't turn on
Turn it over. The label underneath carries the model number (on HP, the "Product" or "P/N" line), and that's enough to look up everything else. Or ring us on 01440 784570 with the model number and we'll look it up.

Finding your Toshiba’s model and processor
The label on the bottom, a sticker or laser-etched into the case, shows the model name (Tecra A50-E, say), the part number and the serial number. Toshiba’s laptop support now sits on Dynabook’s site, support.dynabook.com. For the processor, our spec guide covers the Windows side.
Reading Toshiba model names
The digits give the screen size: a Tecra A40 is 14-inch, an A50 is 15.6-inch and a Portégé X30 is 13.3-inch. The letter after the dash marks the version:
- Tecra A50-C: 15.6-inch, 6th-generation Intel
- Tecra A40-E: 14-inch, 8th generation
- Tecra A50-E: 15.6-inch, 8th generation
- Portégé X30-E: 13.3-inch, 8th generation
Sharp bought 80.1% of Toshiba’s laptop business in October 2018, and the company was renamed Dynabook on 1 January 2019. Laptops made since then carry the dynabook name, and the range names carried on: the Tecra A50-F is sold as a dynabook Tecra.
What changes the price
- The letter, through the generation: an A50-E pays more than an A50-C in the same condition.
- A Portégé X30 is under 14 inches, so it pays less than a Tecra of the same generation. We still buy it.
- An older Satellite with a Celeron, a Pentium or a 5th-generation Core or older is worth next to nothing to us.
- Excellent needs the Toshiba charger it came with, working. Without it, choose Good. A Toshiba that won’t start counts as Faulty (more on selling a broken laptop).

My laptop says dynabook, not Toshiba. What is it?
A 2019-or-later model from the same business. The model name on the label underneath (Tecra A50-J, say) is enough for us to look it up, or ring 01440 784570.
Is a 6th-generation Tecra worth selling?
We buy it, priced well below an 8th-generation model. Windows 11 needs an 8th-generation Intel Core or newer, which the A40-E and A50-E have and the A50-C doesn’t.
Is a Portégé worth less than a Tecra?
Only through the screen. The X30’s 13.3 inches is under 14, so it pays less; a Portégé and a Tecra matching on generation, size and condition pay the same.
