Look for the sticker
Most laptops have a small Intel or AMD sticker on the palm rest, beside the touchpad.
In Windows
Open Settings, then System, then About. The line headed Processor starts with Intel or AMD. Our spec guide has pictures of each screen.
If it won't turn on
Turn it over. The label underneath carries the model number (on HP, the "Product" or "P/N" line), and that's enough to look up everything else. Or ring us on 01440 784570 with the model number and we'll look it up.

Finding your MSI’s model and processor
The label underneath shows the model name with its suffix, such as Katana GF66 11UC, and an MS- number such as MS-1583. The MS- number is the chassis, which several models share, so give us the name and suffix. MSI Center shows the system information under Support, then System Info. Our spec guide has the Windows route.
The form then asks which graphics card you have. Task Manager spells it out: open it with Ctrl, Shift and Esc, click Performance, and find the GPU called NVIDIA or AMD.
Reading MSI model names
On Intel models, the number at the start of the suffix is the processor generation:
- GF63 Thin 9SC: 9th-generation Intel
- GF63 Thin 10SCXR: 10th generation
- Katana GF66 11UC: 11th generation
- Cyborg 15 A12VE: 12th generation
- Katana 15 B13V: 13th generation
In the older names the first digit after the letters is the screen: GF63 and GF66 are 15.6-inch and GE76 is 17.3. Newer names say it outright, as in Katana 15 or Katana 17.
What changes an MSI’s price
- The card. An RTX 3070 and an RTX 3070 Ti are separate options.
- The processor. The gaming form lists Intel from the 8th generation.
- Condition. MSI’s original charger, working, is needed for Excellent; a missing one makes it Good.
- A dead screen or a failed keyboard makes it Faulty. It’s still worth a quote, and selling a broken laptop says why.

Is a Stealth worth more than a Katana?
Only through what’s inside. Our price follows the processor, the card and the condition, whatever the range is called.
What's the MS- number on my MSI for?
It identifies the chassis design, and MSI uses one for several models. The name and suffix on the same label tell us the processor generation.
